Why I decided to write a blog?
When I arrived to England in 2005, I did not know much about teaching piano in England. I only new I wanted to teach and share my passion to play piano with others. I have just finished my master degree in teaching and was passionate about pursuing my teaching career. I did not know where to start then? A little later I attended my first interview (my story) for teaching a piano in a town I lived in and I was very lucky to get my first job in teaching! I started to teach in a local Music Centre. I was sooo excited! I loved my teaching, loved my students. I came across teaching all ages and levels. I mostly concentrated on classical teaching. I grew up in Slovakia and started to play piano when I was 6. I was recognised in school as a talented child and my parents decided to get me to study piano. I played for a long fourteen years learning music theory and played classical music composed by a variety composers. I loved to play Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart and Debussy. I fell in love with classical music back then...and it stayed with me for the rest of my life. But, when I arrived to England and started to teach piano classical way, no one was really interested in playing classical music. There were so many musicians and artists playing pop music out there, I could not believe. Honestly? I loved it? I was inspired! Who dos not love to listen or play Beatles, Coldplay, Abba, yeah? I joined a local musicians and started to gig with them every week. Playing David Gray, Coldplay, Eagles, Kean...etc. I loved it. My whole piano teaching was adapted to a new style of teaching to play pop music and songs of the new era. Students guided me to teach them to play real songs instead of playing etudes and piano exercises on how to learn to sight read music. They were coming to learn to play 'River flows in you' without any knowledge of sight reading skills at all! Crazy, but it worked!. I also enjoyed to play with my students all these lovely songs, songs we loved, songs I never had chance to play. Years past and I very lucky ended up teaching students in secondary schools in local town. We deliver music straight to their door, through a music service! Here I was able to put all together, my passion for music with playing the piano. I adapted to student's needs and am able to teach them whatever piano music they show interest in. Classical or pop. Sight-reading, or not. Play for enjoyment or with commitment to be piano qualified. Today I teach over 50 students in week. Together we share passion for music and we learn to play piano songs we love! What would you love to play on piano?
